The competitive Retriever Trials take place in all states. This can start as early as January in some states and run through most of the year, normally finishing with State Championships building up to the grand event of the Australian National Retrieving Competition. Most of the All Age handlers are working towards that prestigious competition throughout the year.

I travel to most States to compete with my dogs and also judge retriever trials. As our trials are on cold and artificial game we do not have a close season as such. We do however, have a heat policy and tend not to trial in summer.

We have three levels of competitions, Novice, Restricted and All Age. You begin in the lower level stakes and work your way through the various standard levels to All Age where you compete for the title of Retrieving Champion.

Towards the back end of the trialling season we build up to the State Championships then the National Championship hosted annually by a sponsoring State as it moves around the country.
